There is a common belief that Kashmir is an expensive destination. It is not entirely wrong, and it is not entirely right either. The truth depends almost entirely on the choices you make. A couple sharing a clean guesthouse, eating at local restaurants, and getting around by shared transport can spend remarkably little. A couple booking a heritage houseboat, private car, and guided experiences will spend considerably more -- and both trips can be extraordinary.

The difference between a 12,000 rupee trip and a 60,000 rupee trip usually comes down to accommodation tier and activity choices, not the destination itself. Kashmir is surprisingly flexible on budget. What follows is a real cost breakdown across three tiers, using 2026 prices. Everything is included, nothing is hidden.

Flights to Srinagar

Flights are the single biggest variable in your budget. Domestic fares from Delhi to Srinagar can be as low as 2,500 rupees if you book six weeks in advance on a budget carrier, or climb past 7,000 rupees for last-minute peak-season seats. From Mumbai, add another 1,000 to 2,000 rupees. The airlines serving this route include IndiGo, Air India, Akasa, and SpiceJet.

If you are flying from Bangalore, Chennai, or Hyderabad, you will likely connect through Delhi. Book the two legs separately for better pricing rather than as a single ticket. And if you have flexible dates, move your search by a day or two in either direction -- midweek departures on Tuesday and Wednesday are consistently cheaper than Friday or Sunday flights.

Best value window: Book 6 to 8 weeks in advance on IndiGo. Tuesday and Wednesday flights are consistently cheaper than weekend departures. Set a Google Flights price alert for SXR to catch fare drops.

Accommodation Cost by Category

Where you sleep is where most of the budget variation happens. Srinagar has everything from 800-rupee guesthouses to 15,000-rupee heritage houseboats. Gulmarg and Pahalgam tend to be slightly pricier because they are resort towns, but the range is still wide. Here is what each category actually costs per night in 2026.

Daily Activity Costs

Activities in Kashmir range from free (walking through Mughal gardens, strolling along Dal Lake Boulevard) to moderately priced (gondola rides, horse riding). Nothing is extortionate. Here are the main costs you will encounter.

1Shikara Ride, Dal Lake

A one-hour shikara ride costs 400 to 600 rupees. A sunset shikara lasting two hours runs 800 to 1,200 rupees. Negotiate the price before boarding. Trivilio packages include complimentary shikara rides so this cost is already covered.

2Gulmarg Gondola

Phase 1 takes you from 2,650 metres to 3,980 metres for 900 rupees per person. Phase 2 goes higher to 4,267 metres for an additional 500 rupees. Book online at gulmarg.nic.in. Total gondola cost is 1,400 rupees per person for both phases.

3Horse Riding

Gulmarg meadows: 300 to 800 rupees per ride depending on duration. Pahalgam to Betaab Valley: 400 to 600 rupees. Always negotiate the full price upfront and agree on the exact route before you start.

4Local Food

Breakfast at a local dhaba (chai and roti) costs 50 to 100 rupees. A floating vendor breakfast on Dal Lake runs 150 to 300 rupees. A full Wazwan dinner at a local restaurant costs 400 to 800 rupees per person. Eating local is both the cheapest and the most delicious option.

Total Budget Comparison: 6 Nights, 7 Days (Excluding Flights)

Here is the clearest way to see where your money goes. These are per-person costs based on twin sharing. Flights are excluded because they vary so much by origin city and booking window.

Trivilio’s all-inclusive packages start from 14,999 rupees per person (twin sharing) for 5 nights and 6 days. That covers hotel, cab, breakfast and dinner, and Gondola tickets. No hidden extras.

Money-Saving Tips from Our Team

Over the past decade of organising Kashmir trips, we have noticed consistent patterns in where travellers overspend and where they can save without losing any quality. Here are the tips that make the most difference.

1Travel Off-Peak

March, early April, late September, and October offer beautiful weather at 30 to 40 percent lower prices than the June to August peak. November is even cheaper but colder. The Valley is equally gorgeous in these shoulder months.

2Eat Where Locals Eat

Tourist restaurants near Dal Gate charge double what a local restaurant in Lal Chowk or Rajbagh charges for the same food. Ask your driver or guide where they eat. The quality is usually better and the price is half.

3Book a Package

This sounds self-serving, but it is genuinely true. An all-inclusive package from a local operator like Trivilio costs less than booking everything separately because we negotiate bulk rates with hotels, car operators, and activity providers year-round.
