Getting to Kashmir is easier than most people expect. Srinagar has an international airport with daily connections to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jammu, and seasonal links to several other Indian cities. If you are coming from outside India, you typically connect through Delhi or Mumbai. From the Gulf states, there are now direct flights that take under three hours.
There are also two alternative ways to reach the Valley -- by train to Jammu and then road, or by driving the entire distance from cities like Delhi. Each route has a different character. The flight is fast and efficient. The train-plus-road option is slower but more affordable. The full road trip is a journey in itself, taking you through plains, hills, gorges, and finally a tunnel that opens into one of the most beautiful valleys on earth.
This guide covers every major route with current prices, journey times, and practical tips from our team in Srinagar.
By Air: Flights to Srinagar
Flying is the fastest and most popular way to reach Kashmir. Srinagar Airport (SXR) handles domestic and some international flights. Five major airlines operate this route, and frequency has increased significantly in recent years. Here are the key connections.

| Singapore (SIN) | SIA via Delhi | 8 to 12 hrs total | 25,000 to 55,000 |
Best strategy: Book the Delhi to Srinagar flight separately from your international flight. Use Google Flights with flexible dates. Tuesday and Wednesday departures are typically 20 to 30 percent cheaper than weekends.
By Train: Arriving via Jammu
If you prefer rail travel or want to save money, the train route is a solid alternative. You take a train to Jammu Tawi station and then complete the journey by road. The scenery on the road portion -- through the Himalayan foothills and the Banihal Tunnel -- is worth the extra time for many travellers.
By Road: The Scenic Route
Driving from Delhi to Srinagar covers 876 kilometres and takes 15 to 18 hours of actual driving time. The route passes through the Punjab plains, climbs into the Shivalik hills, cuts through Jammu, descends into the Himalayan gorges, and finally emerges into the Kashmir Valley through the Banihal Tunnel. It is an epic road trip by any standard.
This is an excellent option for a group travelling together with luggage, or for anyone who wants to experience the journey as part of the trip rather than just a way to get there. The smart approach is to break it into two days: drive from Delhi to Jammu on day one (roughly 9 hours), stay overnight, and then complete the Jammu to Srinagar stretch the next morning (4 to 5 hours). That way you arrive fresh rather than exhausted.
If you are hiring a driver for the road trip, expect to pay around 8,000 to 12,000 rupees for the Delhi-to-Srinagar one-way journey. Fuel is extra. Make sure to confirm that the vehicle is comfortable enough for mountain roads, especially the final stretch through the Pir Panjal range.
