We Have Many NRI Guests from Dubai. Here Is What They Tell Us.
I am Aamir, founder of Trivilio. I grew up in Kashmir and spent a decade in Bangalore before coming home to build this company. Each year we welcome guests from across the world -- and the Gulf is one of our most significant sources of travellers. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah: the Indian diaspora in the UAE holds Kashmir in a particular kind of reverence. Many of them heard about it from parents or grandparents. Many of them have been meaning to go for years.
The truth is that for a Dubai-based Indian traveller, Kashmir is far more accessible than it looks. The total travel time is 5 to 7 hours depending on your connection. Indian passport holders do not need a visa. And the exchange rate from AED to INR means your money stretches significantly further in Kashmir than it would in most European or Southeast Asian destinations you might be comparing this to.
This guide covers everything a Dubai-based traveller needs to know: how to get there, documentation requirements, currency, and why we recommend spending at least 7 to 10 days in Kashmir when making a trip from this distance.
Flights from Dubai (DXB) to Srinagar (SXR)
There are no direct flights from Dubai to Srinagar at the time of writing. All routes connect via Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM). The Dubai to Delhi leg is approximately 3 hours. The Delhi to Srinagar leg is 1 hour. Total journey from DXB to SXR, including a typical connection time, is 5 to 7 hours depending on your layover.
Emirates, IndiGo, Air India, and flydubai all operate the DXB to DEL route with multiple daily departures. From Delhi, IndiGo and Air India have the most frequent Srinagar connections. The via-Mumbai routing adds travel time but can sometimes offer better pricing for specific dates.
| Route | Via | Total Time | Approx Return (INR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| DXB to SXR | Via Delhi (DEL) | 5 to 6 hours | 18,000 to 35,000 |
| DXB to SXR | Via Mumbai (BOM) | 6 to 8 hours | 20,000 to 38,000 |
Booking tip: Book the international and domestic legs separately -- Dubai to Delhi is one booking, Delhi to Srinagar is another. This gives you more control and often better pricing overall. Allow a minimum of 3 hours between your DXB-DEL arrival and your DEL-SXR departure to clear customs and reach the domestic terminal. Delhi airport has a domestic-to-international connector; terminal transfers take 20 to 30 minutes.
Documentation for Dubai-Based Travellers
Entry requirements to Kashmir depend on your passport, not your UAE residency. Here is a clear breakdown.
Currency and Money in Kashmir
The currency in India is the Indian Rupee (INR). As of mid-2026, 1 AED is approximately 22 to 23 INR, which means Dubai-based travellers find Kashmir significantly affordable by their home standard of living. A full 7-day luxury trip including premium houseboat, private transfers, and guided excursions can be arranged for a fraction of what a comparable week in Europe would cost.
Currency exchange is best done in Delhi or Srinagar airport on arrival, or at established exchange counters in the city. Avoid exchanging at hotels, which typically offer poor rates. Major Srinagar hotels and houseboats accept credit cards, but smaller vendors, local markets, and offbeat destinations work cash-only. Carry a reasonable amount of INR cash for the duration of your trip.
ATMs are available in Srinagar city and in Gulmarg town. They are not available in Gurez Valley or Bangus Valley. Pahalgam and Sonmarg have limited ATM access -- plan accordingly. Trivilio always briefs guests on cash needs for their specific itinerary.
Best Time to Visit Kashmir for Dubai-Based Travellers
Dubai's extreme summer heat (June to September) means the contrast with Kashmir is at its greatest during those months -- and that is not a coincidence in terms of when we see the most bookings from UAE guests. But every season has its advantages.
Spring bloom and Eid holiday window. Tulip season in April. Comfortable 12-20 degrees. Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha often create 4-5 day leave windows that work perfectly.
Peak summer. Kashmir is 22 degrees while Dubai is 42. Children's school summer vacation. The most popular booking window for Gulf-based families. Book 3-4 months ahead.
Autumn chinar foliage, saffron harvest, thin crowds. Many of our NRI guests who have been to Kashmir say October was their most beautiful visit.
Winter Kashmir with snow. Gulmarg skiing. Frozen Dal Lake. A dramatic contrast to Dubai's winter warmth. Popular for the Eid Al Milad and winter school break window.
Why We Recommend 7 to 10 Days from Dubai
When you are making a journey that involves an international flight, a connection, and a second domestic flight, the total travel overhead is 5 to 7 hours each way. That means a 5-day trip effectively gives you 3 full days in Kashmir once you account for travel. For a destination this extraordinary, that is not enough.
Seven to ten days gives you time to genuinely exhale. Time to do Dal Lake properly, to spend two nights in Pahalgam rather than racing through it, to perhaps visit an offbeat destination like Gurez Valley that most tourists never reach. When Dubai guests do make the journey, the ones who come for a full week or more are almost universally the ones who return the following year. The ones who squeeze it into 4 or 5 days often feel they missed something -- because they did.
"We have many NRI guests from Dubai who grew up hearing about Kashmir and are finally visiting. They bring their children, sometimes their parents. They want to show their families something real about where they come from. For that, seven days is the minimum I will plan for them." — Aamir, Trivilio
